Target Audience for swishing documentary
The target audience for my documentary is teenage females aged between 16-18; they would fall into the ED sociol-economic category, the D category is semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers. The E category is pensioners, lower grade workers and unemployed. My primary target audience fits into these categories because of their age, they are students who are still at school and on a low income.
A- High managerial and professional
B- Middle managerial and professionalC1 - Supervisor, junior management and professional
C2 - Skilled manual worker
D - Semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers
E - Pensioners, lower grade workers and the unemployed
The social grouping my target audience would be british however could also be of an other nationality and of mixed ethnicity. They would come from a working/middle class family as the topic of my documetary would be at more of an interest to them. The secondary target audience would be teenage boys who also might like the concept of the documentary they would fit into the same age group 16-19.
Media grouping: The types of media they would be into would be fashion they would buy magazines such as heat, OK or closer. They would have a keen intrest in trends and keeping up to date with high street fashion trends. The types of programmes they would watch would generally be on ITV2 this is because the style of the shows are mainly reality biased such as models, misfits and mayhem. the style of music they are most likely to listen to would be R&B and pop. Some of the artiest including pixie Lott or Rihanna this is because they are icons.Sunday, April 22, 2012
Vimeo doc
After watching '2011 art of fashion' I was able to see the way in which professional documentary makers structure their footage. The beginning of the documentary is very captivating as the presenter has just talked about whether work and play old be joined together. I was then lead on to see the tile and the style fits perfectly with the concept. The title looks as if it has been produced via is top motion and is aesthetically very pleasing. In my documentary I will hope to produce a similar type of title sequence as it appealing and would work well with my target audience. The use of colour and theme complimented each other and made me want to watch on. Before going into a voice over narrative I am able to view cutaways that look of good quality and are of 2seconds each this is good as it keeps the viewer hooked. In my documentary I will hope to to cutaways to help tell my story and showcase my topic well. I am then lead on to hear the narrative voice over whist watching more cutaways. As the documentary goes on a very upbeat music track plays that gives creates a strong positive impact on the documentary.

Outline of Programme Idea
Outline of Programme Idea:
Topic and Title: ‘Don’t Shop Swap’
My topic is to look into the solutions that young females can do to save money and not spend so much on clothes. Currently there are many teenage females that are going out and buying new clothes because they are cheap from shops such as Primark however, they are unaware of the working conditions of the people making the cloths. I am going to create a documentary that will be informative and will give teenage females a solution. I will be going into a new topic of swishing; this is when people swap clothes with each other online or during swishing parties. This means people will be able to have new cloths without having to buy load of cheap new ones. Ultimately helping those working in poor working conditions as well as themselves.
Type of documentary:
The type of documentary that I will be creating will be investigative, as I will be giving young females an alternative to spending money on new clothes. It will also be showing them the benefits this could small change could make to not only there life but others around the world.

Development to final pitch
There have been many changes I have had to make through the process of coming up with my final idea . My first idea was to create a documentary that would allow young people to see how much they are being influenced by celebrity's. However, when pitching this idea to my target audience the feedback I had received was not what I thought of it to be. I was told that the concept was weak as teenagers don’t tend to copy the fashion of celebrity’s. When thinking of the about the idea in more detail I had realised that it would not be realistic as I wouldn’t be able to talk to a professional that would fit this topic.
When thinking of my second idea I wanted to keep the concept of the idea the same and so did my research in to what current issues I could tackle. When looking into issues I had realised that there is not real topic that could fit into the current market for teenagers lasting for 5 minutes. After looking and thinking of an idea I had come up with my second idea to tackle the male beauty market and how teenage males are becoming more self obsessed. When I had presented this pitch the feedback was once again not good, the concept of the idea had already been covered and there was no realistic angle I could take to it. I had to go back to the drawing board and think over the idea. What issue could I cover that teenagers would have an interest in. I once again did my research into what I could cover. When coming across my third idea I wanted it to have a relevance to a field I have an interest in. the solutions to fashion. Why people should not go out and buy new clothes and instead swap. When presenting my idea to the market it was a success. The idea was new and there was no current documentary that covered this issue. The documentary is realistic and I would be able to speak with many professionals regarding this topic.
In this comparative essay I will be looking at the difference in the One Show documentary, which is a report about badger and whether they should be culled or if there is another way of getting rid of them. I will be comparing it to Sunday, which is about people point of view on Sunday and how it should be spent.
The report would mainly target those who are affected by either the culling of badgers or those who have a problem with the badgers having TB. The age range for the report would be males and females aged between 35-45 this is because the topic has more of a relevance to them.
The report on badgers looks into whether the government should look into the decision of culling the badgers in the UK because due to the outburst of TB. The show has a biased opinion as it only has a professional spokesman from the wildlife trust who argues that is wrong to cull the badgers as only a minor amount are affected. The farmers in certain areas of the UK are currently using a process of whereby they would catch the badgers and vaccinate them by doing this the badgers can continue to live and would not have to be killed.
In the documentary there are many conventions been used one of which is the biased opinion as there is only a professional that’s against culling the badgers and we don’t hear from anyone who is for the culling to go ahead
In this report there are many cutaways when the speaker are talking each cut away relates to what they are talking about depending on the subject such as when they mention cattle there would be a cutaway of the cattle this enables the viewer to have more of an interest as they are able to see what the presenter is referring to.
Another convention in this report is the use of voice over as when the cutaways are player the audience is still able to hear the person speaking.
The average shot length in the report was from 4-6 seconds this is because it’s important that the viewer
See’s change as it keeps them interested and brains thinking.
In comparison to the one show 'Sunday' is a documentary that talks about three peoples opinions of Sunday. Jim who has been running his candlelight ballroom dances for 21 years, Colin who is an MG enthusiast who likes nothing more than to get out onto the open road on a Sunday afternoon, and David who thinks Sundays
should be banned.
The target audience for this documentary would be for middle-aged adult as they would be more interested in the content and argument.
The mode of address of this documentary is unbiased as we have both for and against Sunday. It’s also documenting an aspect of reality as they are talking about something that relates to everyone.
In the documentary the first few shots are talking about David’s point of view and how he does not like Sunday’s it then skips to Jim who loves Sunday’s as he is able to enjoy the day having a rest and ballroom dancing. The shot then turns back to David and he explains more about why he does not like Sundays and this likes to the things that David likes to do. We the audience is then introduced to Colin who also enjoys the peaceful time he has on Sunday as he is able to get into his car and have a drive around the country side.
There are many conventions in this documentary one of them is the direct mode of address as all three speakers are talking directly to us. It consist of different points of view and therefore is non-biased. The documentary has many cut always when Jim talks about his love for Sundays as he is able to ballroom dance the audience see a cut away showing him at a ballroom dance.
The average shot length in this report is from 3-4 this is important, as the audience like to see a change to keep them interested. The shots are not only short they also cut to all three points of views.
In conclusion both documentary have many things that are in common however the style and content is different. The badger’s documentary is more conventional as there is a presenter that introduce and follow the topic. However is biased were as the Sunday documentary is less conventional and has both arguments.

In this practice interview i have noticed many faults one of the problem is that we had filmed too much of the background this is meant that we were able to see more of what was around the room to improve this next time i will film the interview ensuring that the subject is more dominant in the framing.
Another problem in this interview is the talking space, both me and louis were on the same side so when it came to cross cutting this looks like we are not being filmed at the same time this problem could be improve by ensuring that next time we film making sure that the talking space is right and left.
Another problem that I had noticed when looking at this interview is the mise-en-scene as the background was very messy with bottles and untidy computers this ultimately looks unprofessional to improve this next time I would ensuring that the surrounding are tidy as presentable this could also be reduced is the camera focus is more dominant on the subject another problem was that the interviewer had looked informal as he was wearing his jacket.
there are many good aspect of this interview one of them being the lighting. before filming the interview we had chosen to use natural lighting this had given the overall positive outcome as we are able to see the interviewer clearly we also filmed away from the light.
Another strong convention of the interview is the sound as it is clear. when filming the interview we had used a microphone this was placed on the table directly beneath me and louis. it was important that we had used a microphone as the location we had filmed had high celling and would have caused our voices to echo.

A fly on the wall documentary is were the camera is invisible you are only able to see the subject and would follow there every move most of the shots are for long periods of time. The camera would be with them whilst it follows there day to day routine even if they were to go on holiday or an evening party. This style of a documentary is created for entertainment purposes. most of the time it would be on celebrity such as Katie Price or Peter Andre. As they have interesting and most profitable content. In the Katie price show not only does she have such an exiting and entreating life she also is able to put the record straight and people are able to see that the made up rubbish written in magazines and newspaper is all lies and false stories.
A participatory is were the presenter takes the viewer through the topics and links sections of the film together while being presented on screen most of the time. A good example of this would be supper nanny the mode of address in her program is investigative and optimistic. Her programs are about controlling out of hand children as there parents are unable to cope suppernanny would look investigate the problem with the child and try to help. The programs are optimistic are you would see a good outcome at the end. The target audience for super nanny would parents of all ages so they can lean from supper nanny when she help parents re-connect with there child.
A doc-soap is a series of programmes which feature an inside look at an institution through a set of "characters" who appear each week
A good example of this would be made in Chelsea as the characters are genuinely being themselves however some of the time shots can be exaggerated for entertainment purposes. The target Market for this style of documentary would be young teens to adults aged between 15-35 however depending on the content of the program. The mode of address for a docu-soap would be entertainment as it's a series of real life exaggerated program and people are always interested to watch on to find out whats going to happen.
